SWCD Board of Supervisors

The SWCD Board of Supervisors oversees the SWCD operations and helps set policy regarding state cost share and other conservation issues. Our supervisors strive to protect the interests of our farmers and community members while protecting our natural resources, enhancing the quality of life for everyone in Stevens County.

This map shows the five different districts that are represented by the SWCD Board of Supervisors.

Board members are available to meet with landowners in Stevens County and welcome your input on the various conservation issues that affect all of us. The supervisor in your district may be more knowledgable about issues in your specific area, but feel free to contact any supervisor with your conservation issues or concerns.

The board meets at 9:30 a.m. on the second Tuesday of each month. Their meetings are open and public participation is encouraged.

2011 in Review

Each year, the Stevens SWCD sets measurable goals and long range plans for conservation issues in Stevens County. Specific activities and accomplishments for 2011 include:
  • Coordinated the Area II Envirothon for high school and junior high students in a 12-county area.
  • Co-coordinated the Pope & Stevens Conservation Day at SWELL -- 5th graders attended
  • Co-coordinated the Pope & Stevens Water Fest -- 6th graders attended
  • Planted about 15,000 trees on farmstead windbreaks and installed about 50,000 feet of fabric mulch
  • Planted over 1400 acres of native grasses
  • Assisted with the enrollment of over 800 acres of new and re-enrolled CRP
  • Administered State Cost Share program in Stevens County, disbursing over $28,000 to landowners who installed conservation projects
  • Acted as fiscal agent for the Pomme de Terre Association Joint Powers Board and assisted with the activities of the Watershed Project Coordinator housed in this office, including continuing work related to fecal coliform and turbidity TMDLs as well as a Major Watershed project
  • Monitored wells, lakes and rivers for ground water levels
  • Completed water monitoring on rivers and lakes within the Pomme de Terre watershed
